My experience with contacting Medicare regarding authorization for European surgery resulted in Medicare stating they would not pay for anything outside of the U.S. unless the closest hospital for an emergency that happened in the U.S. was located in Canada or Mexico. In addition, Medicare will not authorize any surgery that has not been FDA approved.
