Default Prof. Dr. med. Burkhard Rischke, PhD

Anyone know much about Prof. Dr. Burkhard Rischke, PhD. I was contacted yesterday from this surgeon in Zurich, Switzerland in regards to wanting to use the LP-ESP disc for my disc replacement. I have found quite a bit of information online. However, I wanted to see if anyone knows anything about this surgeon or his practice.

Regards,
Nathan

The member "Haloffi" has seen this surgeon. He has two threads in the post surgery forum. He's the only one I know of that has seen this surgeon.

Default No Way...

I did get a response, but now way. He is quoting over $80,000 USD for my surgery. The highest quote I received before his quote was right around $42,000 USD.

I am not sure why though. His clinical costs are one charge of around $40,000 USD, and then he sent me a second quote for the doctor fees which was also around $40,000 USD. That is robbery.

Doesn't sound right. Please be aware of language issues and simply ask for clarification before you decide he's out.

Default @phillyjoe

He does seem like a great doctor, but here is my email sent this morning, and Dr. Rischke's response to my email:

* MY EMAIL *

"I received an invoice in my email that was titled "Estimate" and it showed a quote for 38' 600 CHF for clinic costs. I then received a second invoice in an email titled "Microsoft Word - 9524_Honorarvereinb englisch Hull.docx.pdf" and it showed a quote for 39' 500 Swiss Francs for the total amount.

Is the 39' 500 the total amount for the clinic costs and the surgeon fees? So is this what I would pay should I agree to have the surgery? Or do I add 38' 600 and 39' 500 together which would equal 78' 100 CHF?

Regards,
Nathan"

* RESPONSE *

"Dear Mr. Hull,

that’s correct. The amount of all clinic costs and the amount of the surgeons fees ( two surgeons and assistance!) summarize to 78’100,- CHF.

best regards"

Default Surgical locations for Dr. Rischke

Okay,

It was surprising to find an email from Dr. Rischke on September 7th when I had given up on that pursuit because of the extremely high cost of surgery. Our last communication was back on August 22nd. I had been in touch with Eric Hermann from FH Orthopedics, and apparently he had been speaking with Dr. Rischke which led to Dr. Rischke reaching out to me again. I will not post the back and forth emails between Dr. Rishke and myself, but I will post the final analysis of what the emails were about... a 2-Level ADR using the LP-ESP at levels L4-L5 and L5-S1. Dr. Rishke kept in touch until we got the costs down to a level I could afford.

So, I want to share a few things about Dr. Rischke, because they may be a deciding factor if someone is considering going with him. First, he communicates directly from himself, at least that is the case with me. Second, he answers your questions. He does not leave you hanging like Dr. Zeegers has with me. And third, he responds in a timely manner, again, unlike Dr. Zeegers has with me. Can you tell, I am not happy with Dr. Zeegers at all. But that is for another post.

Moving on. Here is the breakdown of costs for the above mentioned ADR that he can do at three different locations.

Default update on me moving forward

Well, it is official. I sent in the agreement to Dr. Rischke just moments ago.

After talking things over with my wife, and really thinking back to all that has happened, I thought that Dr. Zeegers was the doctor I wanted. But I never really could pinpoint what it was about him that seemed off. I simply ignored the feeling, and then told myself he reminded me of my doctor here in the states... so my mind said it was okay to continue pursuing him.

Maybe it was because he was the first one to contact me, and to schedule a video chat through skype, I don't know.

However it may be, I now know that I do not want to go with Dr. Zeegers because someone's character is very important to me if I am going to let them open me up and operate on me. Careless character can lead to a lack of judgement in the operating room, and ultimately could lead to potential consequences, injury or even death.

I already posted information here about one thing I do not like that happened between Dr. Zeegers and myself. And then he decides to call Dr. Rischke criminal for charging so much, and states he is mafia:

"this is criminal .... how can that be a fine doctor .... maffia"

That sealed the deal for me. No Zeegers. Doctors can charge what they want. This is not criminal.

Well, I always liked Dr. Rischke, but his cost was too high in the beginning. But, he kept working with me until we found a way to get the cost down substantially, and I am satisfied with the cost. It is something I can afford.

I am sorry that I ranted and got off track here. It is just Dr. Zeegers pushed a button, and it more than frustrated me. But, today is a new day and I feel great about going with Rischke.

I will post more once we set a date for surgery.

Regards,
Nathan

Hey there, I've been in communication with Dr. Rischke myself. His service quote was circa 40,000 Euro, and the Zurich spine center quote was nearly 50,000 Euro. He actually sounded apologetic and said the Swiss center prices were extremely high (his resort center) and he offered to travel and meet me in Dusseldorf, Germany, presumably as a part of another trip of his to Hamburg. Have you had your surgery yet? Experience and outcomes? Rischke SOUNDS great and he does answer each email and call on Skype, but the lack of other than one person's experience (on YouTube) leaves me slightly concerned. You can private email me at medicricci@gmail.com or call if you'd like. I'd really appreciate it. Thanks, Tony

I will contact you via email.

However, in the future I would send a Private Message to someone you are trying to contact. This way your personal information can be kept confidential... such as your email address. Just to be on the safe side, I would delete your post or at least delete your email within the post so no one else sees it.

Default I got a high quote too

I contacted him as well. He was using another new adr. Anyway, it was really high. I got a lower cost from Dr. Bertignoli but I went with Dr. Clavel. It was the assessment that decided it for me. Dr. Rischke had someone on here that needed a revision like a year and a half later. I'll try to find that post...
