On 2/1 Nastech Pharmaceutical Co granted the development rights to Proctor and Gamble to develop a once daily nasal spray of parathyrod hormone, currently called PTH1-34 - currently known as Forteo. This is in Stage 1 FDA trials and hopefully is effective as the injectable Forteo. I'm hoping that treatment with the spray will allow for long term treatment not limited to 18 months to 2 years only then being left with no effective treatment except oral biophosphates which irritate most patients stomachs. Looks like good news to me.

What's the inclusion criteria for the study? Do you have a website for that info?? Sounds pretty interesting tho I was spraying Miacalcin up my nose for almost a year before starting Actonel.. not really into that route that much but probably better than oral ingestion..

I must say, I like the words non-invasive. So far my all natural regimine is working for my bones and me. If anything deteriorates, maybe I'll just have to inhale.

Another new treatment has FDA Approval in 2006 -it's IV Infusion of Boniva in which you have 4 infusions per year. It can be an alternative to taking oral medications or use after finishing injectable Forteo. I don't know how to post a link but if anyone does, please post it. Thanks

Hmmm--I'm surprised at the approval of infusions since IV administration of biophosphates has been shown to be related to osteonecrosis. Is Boniva not a biophosphate?

Sahauro,
Yes, the doctor did mention jaw necrosis as a side effect and said that if patients have had any tooth inplants or plates in their mouth they weren't recommended to use this. It's also a side effect from oral use of this and other biophosphates.

I had the IV Boniva several weeks ago. I had been on Forteo for almost two years when another one of my doctors strongly suggested the Boniva IV. I was for it because the nightly Forteo injections are a nuisance.
I have uveitis and Fosamax caused the uveitis to flare so I stopped and was switched to the Forteo. My doctor assured me that Boniva did not cause uveitis. Several days after I got the shot I noticed the uveitis was back. The doctor who had me on the Forteo was furious that the other doctor switched me to the Boniva and put my vision at risk. What a mess. If you are thinking about the Boniva IV do a search on Boniva side effects because the effects last for three months. I'll go back on Forteo soon and will not have another Boniva IV.. According to my doctor Forteo can be used for longer than two years. Fosamx and Boniva are in the same class. I will be interesting to see if the nasal spray is as effective as the shot. I wonder if the nasal spray has to be refrigerated, as the shot does?
