You can purchase them at US Post Offices also, but you will want to call ahead and make sure your PO offers this service, they can refer you to an office locally that does.
Had ours within 2 weeks, but if you are in the SouthEast US, be aware that the Passport Office for this area of the US was in New Orleans, and they are spreading the load now to other areas because of Katrina.... this could casue delays if you are in a hurry....
