PRODISC C vs M6C

I have been diagnosed with the need to repair C3-4, 4-5, 5-6 and maybe 6-7. As a female requiring either 3 or 4 discs replaced or 2 or 3 discs replaced plus 1 fusion...I am hoping to get opinions on the advantages/disadvantages of Prodisc vs. the M6.

I would love to hear from anyone who has had a multilevel cervical procedure to learn why they chose the brand of artificial disc they did...and not because of what is approved in the country where they live.

My real question is..."IF BOTH PRODISC AND M6 WERE APPROVED AND AVAILABLE TO YOU...WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?

Hi Mirta, welcome. Sorry about your situation. Can you tell us more about your spinal health? How long have you had these levels affected? Did you have trauma, such as a car accident? Have you had problems like arthritis? What diagnostics have you had?

If you are set on having a keeled design, which removes a lot of bone, it's important to get a bone density exam (like DEXA). Also, as a woman, you may be in a higher risk category for osteoporosis. If that's not enough, localized osteoporosis of the spine from undiagnosed diseases has been documented for some time now.

The design of the M6 is simply more novel than the Prodisc-C. Theoritically, it should work "better". If it were FDA approved, I would most likely choose it. However, it is not and that is largely why I am choosing a Prodisc-C. If I were to go overseas to have my procedure done, I would want an M-6C. With all of that said, for me personally, I would rather have my procedure done in the US and more specifically, in a fairly local area. I think that having a physician there before and after to work with me (as mine has throughout my process) and then to potentially address any post op issues, far outweighs the benefits of the actual implant. Again, this is only my opinion though. I think that this is something that each person has to come to grips with on thier own to make the best decision for themselves. To quote a good friend of mine, "Nobody cares about me, more than me..."
