Thumbs up Clinical Trial Success

I had my surgery in September of 2008 as part of a clinical trial. Disc Dynamics paid for everything. My surgery (now 15 months post-op) was successful, the company could not have treated me better, Dr. Christopher Yeung (Phoenix, AZ) was great, and I could not be happier! I have lost about %80 of my pain (replaced L4-5). Although trials are now over, they may become available sometime soon (see discdyn.com). I would recommend this option for anyone with a single level disc problem.

Default Disc Dynamics paid for everything, now out of business

Disc Dynamics paid for my entire proceedure in 08. Of course, they are now out of business. I believe the surgery cost around $40,000. My pain is about %50 gone but I am now very leary of the future!

Question Thirty percent pain difference?

Johnny,

In between the times you posted, it looks like the pain is coming back? Is that right? If it is, is it the exact type and location of pain?

Default Good Days and Bad........

I would say right now I have good days and bad. It is difficult to evaluate the effectiveness of my particular surgery, I believe, because most people are not as hard on their backs on a daily basis as I am (working as a poker dealer). Every dealer I work with has some degree of back pain. I went back to work less than three months after my surgery a year and a half ago. If I could get another job (working on it!), I believe I would have very little back pain (%20 pre-surgery). I start to recover on my days off, then by the end of the work week I am up to about %80 of pre-surgery pain.

Overall I am better, and happy to still be working. Hopefully, at some point I will be pain free through a new job, excercise, and eating right--six months?!

p.s. I would also say the pain is mostly the same, in the same area......
