Smile Hybrid ADR/TLIF

Hi everyone! I'm new, and a 27 y/o single mom. Been living with nasty back pain for 5 years now. (3 car accidents.) I had a herniation at L5-S1 and a micro-d for it Aug. of 2011. Just underwent a discogram last Friday, and am now considered DDD. Insurance won't cover a 2 level ADR (L4-5 L5-S1) so we're going to do a hybrid. Anyone here have experience with that??

Jaclyn,

Sorry you are here, but there are many people with "hybrid" solutions. You can search by that key word, you'll find plenty in post-op forum. The search function is above in navigation. You can even do an advanced search, but here's the link:

http://www.adrsupport.org/forums/search.php

When you can, please see this topic for your "homework:"

Let me know if you need help. Hope you have a peaceful holiday with good turkey and a good

Before surgery: severe spinal stenosis C5/C6 (cord "flattened" per stateside doc), + for Hoffman's & Babinsky's.
At time of surgery: 5 yrs MAX before ending up in wheelchair.
Clavel found L5-S1 partially fused. Had to cut it apart to put in M6.

Unhappy It S unlucky!

I didn't even realize that until I was typing it all out before.
I've been browsing around a bit, trying to get used to here after being over at Spine-Health for a while. It seems the hybrid surgery is more common than I thought it was.
I see in your sig you don't want the ProDisc. Mind if I ask why? My doctor will be using it for my surgery...

I don't mind it all. There are quite a lot of reasons, not the least of which being the product contains nickel in it and any time I put nickel in my ears they bleed and fill with puss, so figured pudding that in my spine would probably not be a good move. Plus I think there are better discs out there. But the main reason is that by former spinal surgeon told me just pulled one out of a patient after 20 years and that the unit was corroded. He told me he was strongly considering no longer doing the procedure because of this. So this worried me. On the other hand I have a good friend who has won in his neck and loves it.
