Pain Reducing Tip

Sound Relief!

As you know, in certain circumstances your body can release chemicals called endorphins, which are your own natural painkillers. As people with pain, one of our main aims in life should always be to encourage the production of these endorphins.

Many methods can be used to trigger the release of endorphins, such as relaxation, pleasure, distraction, and, here's a new one – sounds!

Test out this unusual method for yourself:

Close your eyes and locate the source of pain...
Make a long 'aah' or 'oh' sound for one full outbreath...
Focus on the source of pain whilst you breathe out...
Visualise the discomfort releasing out from the area of pain, through your skin, and out into the air along with the sound.

Repeat one more time.
This method will help you to breathe more slowly and deeply, this in itself will also contribute towards the reduction of pain and anxiety.

TOOL KIT - If you liked any of the above ideas why not keep them in your Tool Kit notebook or folder of self-help pain relief methods. If you haven't started one yet, do keep a special notebook or folder as your Tool Kit to remind you of techniques and skills for coping with pain. Your Tool Kit is especially useful when pain flares up, because it will help prevent anxiety and give you constructive ideas to focus upon so you can move forwards.
