I have a question. Since having my bone density exam last week, and the back one being completely skewed due to my three articial lumbar discs....do we not need bone density exams on our backs anymore after ADR? Especially 3? Or is there a technique to reading them that these docs don't know about yet? In my other area, the hip, I actually maintained from last year. Which is really amazing since I stopped taking the Fosamax...too many side effects. So I can keep doing what I'm doing there anyway. Just very curious if anyone has any answers to this question, after ADR.
Thanks!

This is an excellent question and I hope someone here can answer!
Can you explain how the results were skewed? Up? Down? Was the machine unable to take a measure?
BTW, I think the effects of Fosamax last for several years after stopping.

Sahuaro, the machine took the reading, it was way up. I was only on Fosamax for maybe 3 months, so not sure if it helped or not. Maybe.

My back doctor just emailed me back with the answer. It is the bone cement that renders the reading skewed. He said they should take readings of my hip (which they did) and my wrist. Good to know.

Hi Terry. Well, my doctor said in his email last night that my weight is not an issue. I proposed possibly postponing my surgery till end of summer or early fall so I could lose the 15 pounds I need to. I'm supposed to call his medical secretary today to schedule surgery. I'm concluding from his email that he doesn't think I should put it off. I'll post more as soon as I know. I'm wondering if you can do stairs soon after ALIF. I'll have to ask. We have alot of stairs at the house, and at the cabin. Thank-you for inquiring.

Elizabeth's and my prayers and thoughts are with you and your husband during this difficult time. Hopefully you will get on the other side of this issue soon.
