Dave, I almost forget to mention a tool that was very helpful to me both pre and post-op, the theracane. See www.theracane.com

I bought from Amazon.com back in 2004, I think it was $30.

The Theracane is an amazing piece of gear. It works great for dealing with trigger points.

Hi Dave - I am near Austin

I had a muscle after my car accident in my lower left shoulder blade that was completely knotted up - my chiropractor who practices the gonstead method (gentle chiropractic) was able to work it out. She also recommended Biofreeze which is an amazing gel that really pentrates deep into the muscles for relief. Now I find lots of muscles compensating for the ones around L5/S1 and I use it on those and it works wonders. I also use a moist heating pad rather than a regular one if I do. Of course if you have any swelling in the area you only want to use ice I have been told - you might want to check her out - she is in San Marcos, which isn't far from you...her husband is in practice with her and he is great too! Good luck with getting comfort!

prayers your way!
blessings!
Laura

I have found exactly one (out of about ten seen) deep tissue massage therapists that work for stuff like this. I don't know where you could find it there, but it involves putting pressure into in the problem area for several minutes. This is quite painful at first but works wonders. Somehow the muscle releases after this pressure is applied. This is only done by a handful of "certified" therapists here in Arizona. My therapist's website is keatssnideman.com Good luck and take care.

Default Botox Injections

Prior to my ADR surgery, I had botox injections twice which helped enourmously. Many have commented about my very hard muscles (massage therapists, doctors, pts).

Over the past 6 weeks, I wound up having two trigger point injections. The first one did half the job, which helped me traverse stairs easier. However, I've had problems after the second one.

Instead of taking it easy and icing down, I went back to work afterwards. Unfortunately, the injection caused inflammation, which wound up pressing against the point of my fusion (L4-L5).

Since then, my right leg pain has returned, and my foot feels like it's on fire! The doctor put me on Lyrica; unfortunately, I had an anaphylactic reaction to it! Oh well, such is life. On the positive side, the trigger point injections have loosened my tight muscles about 75%.

Terry you are funny with your bowl of pot replacement exercise! There is noting like it I miss it alot. As for the knotted muscle its difficult when you have tried it all ,I have knotted traps and have help wit a specialist PT now adn tshe has taught me how to do scapular setting work, this is to take the strain off the upper traps and re-educate them Its is hard to do as my shoulders keep trying to do everything from the top but it is paying off after 5 days I am in 50% less pain and the traps are more soft (some of the time) I wonder whether finding the muslcles that could help take the strain off that one would be worth a try?. I also tried Trigger point work and massage heavy and light they were useless and also injections which made it much worse (both types) hope it settles soon Maz

my right shoulder muscles have been hard as a rock since 2001, you can bounce a quarter off them pretty much anytime, the trigger points (lidocaine) I had done in 2005 helped quite a bit (after the initial pain) but wore off over time. My left one has never been as bad but has tightened up quite a bit as my symptoms went bi-lateral about a year ago. This is one of the things I am hoping my ADR surgery next week will help. I use Thermacare patches quite a bit the heat seems to help relax the muscles, I don't like to use the muscle relaxers on a regular basis. Sometimes they are so hard that it actually hurts to try to massage them.
