Default Hello!

Helo Everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself. I am a retired police officer (injured in the line of duty) rescuing a person from a residential house fire. I suffered multiple disk herniations and was forced to retire several years later. I suffer from severe back pain, numbness, weakness in right leg, etc. I was told in 2003 I was a canidate for ADR but that I was "too young" and should hold off until the results could be seen nationwide. I took that advice and now I am worse than I was. I have had every conservative treatment under the sun with minimal results. I figure surgery is long past due.

I went to a surgical consult today and it appears that I am excellent candidate for a ADR at L4-L5 and a fusion at L5-S1. I was offered a spot in a clinical trial involving a new ADR called the NuBac. The implant is different than other ADR's in that it goes inside the diseased disk (the nucleus is removed and this implant placed inside). This implant is made by Pioneer Surgical Technology and they are the makers of the ProDisc-L implant I was told. If i am one of the lucky 50% to be selected then I will receive the NuBac. If not I will receive the Prodisc-L. I will not know until after the surgery which one I will be receiving. The NuBac implant is placed into the spine area through a small incision on your side rather than going through your abdomen. I was given a TON of information today so I am still digesting it so I am not sure I am going through with it yet. Has anyone heard of the NuBac implant? Anyways, I look forward to being a regular member here on the site. Thanks.

Kelly

Default Welcome...

Welcome, Kelly.

Yes, there are some past topics involving the Nubac, appr. 12 past conversational topics you already found. I've not looked into this study for a while, so please let us know what you find out. In the meantime, here's the Nubac clinical trial link; please note the list of contraindications too. By the way, Pioneer Surgical and Synthes are two different companies:

We're all in this together; even your questions help! Good luck with your next steps.
