Nichole, see http://www.spinal-motion.com/default.htm

for the mfr of the new artifical disc. From their rather spartan home page:

SpinalMotion has developed motion preserving, non-fusion technology for spine surgeons to treat patients with degenerative disc disease and related conditions of the lumbar and cervical spine. SpinalMotion's Kineflex lumbar artificial disc is CE Marked, and has been in clinical trials outside the United States since October, 2002.

Mid summer last year, UCSF contacted me about an upcoming clinic trial for an ADR called Centurion or something that sounded like that. I never did follow up after I found out about my bone density problems. Maybe someone else will have heard of it.

I contacted Spinal-motion and they told me that the Kineflex used to be called Centiron. They told me there was information out on the web and cant find anything about it. Making me a little nervous. I cant do any research on this disc and I have a 50% chance of receiving this disc.

Thanks everyone, I will keep looking.

Nichole,

They have not responded to my email requesting information. With a website that has virtually no info and them not responding to my email, I am also getting more than a little concerned.

Patrick,

I called and spoke with one of the reps there. He told me about the study, Dr. Schwaeglers involvements and said that Dr. Schwaegler has all of the information and will be handing it out to those of us who are involved in the study or interested in it.

Mark, thanks for the info.

Kineflex w/be discussed at a forthcoming syposium in May.

I posted this at the "Spinal Roundtable". If I had a hard copy, I'd read b/w the lines carefully.

I received a Kinelfex ADR three months ago. It's an established device under FDA trial. There are many people on this forum who also received the Kineflex. My surgery was very good and results to date have been excellent - I am nearly pain free. It is *not* metal on poly. Rather, it is metal-on-metal design, three-pieces.

Your proper contact for the information should be one of the doctors participating in the study. They will have an actual Kineflex device mounted in a model that you can hold and see (as well as the Charite). The manufacturer doesn;t typically interact directly with patients. I can say I am very happy with my results.
