cheaper Munich hotels

We, Laura and I, just returned from our sixth trip to the Alpha Klinik fixing Laura's knee this time. As we've been over to Munich way too often, we tried alternative hotels to the standard Sheraton Grand or Bogenhausen to try to cut costs. The Hilton Munich Park is about 15-20 minute walk away and right at the end of a tram or bus ride away from the Alpha Klinik. We had Hilton Honor points that got a few free nights there so I don't know what they run per night, but they look like a cheaper alternative to the Sheratons. There isn't a U-bahn station anywhere near it though, so if you run into snow that would shut down the buses and trams you'll be in for a long walk. This happened the day of and just before Laura's knee surgery and resulted in a two-mile luggage drag through snow when we switched hotels.

For those who really want to save money, we also checked out the Eurohotel in Aufhausen near the end of the S2 line. The hotel was less than half the cost of the Sheratons and had a microwave and fridge in it, though no AC for the summer. The problem is that it is over an hour to travel back on the S2 S-Bahn line and connect in Ostbahnhof to a bus to get to the Alpha Klinik. Not bad if you're not going in every day but we were. We'll still use it again but plan our trips in more judiciously.
