As many of you have seen, I have been hoping that my upcoming patient seminar would be the kick-off for a non-profit spine patients' advocacy group. Well, a lot has been happening behind the scenes and I've acquired a grant to help start such a group. Over the next few weeks, we'll be firing up a 501c3 non-profit association. I'd like to see such an agency,

1. facilitate easy access to current, accurate information for spine patients.

2. give the patient community a larger voice with the medical community, the orthopedics industry, government and regularatory agencies.

I'd like your help. First.... a name. I've been considering the International Spine Patient Society.

>>> If anyone has suggestions for a name, domain name, etc... I'm all ears.

>>> Second, I'd like to hear ideas about what services a society may be able to provide.

Mark

International Patient Spine Society.

Sounds like a 70's rock group with a heavy "back-beat".

How 'bout: Worldwide Spiney Society.

I know: sounds like a Marvel Comic. Oh well.

International Spine Consumers.
Definitely has a ghoulish quality.

It's a great idea. Might the emphasis more appropriately be put on: Advocate, rather than Patient?

International Spine Advocates, Inc.
Worldwide Spine Advocates, Inc.

Great!

To get external funds, use pity, e.g. Spinal Injury Victims, Intl.

Cheerful Spineys, Intl. Endless possiblilities..

Mark,
This sounds like a great idea. I would love to help out in any way I can. The mission of this group sounds like something that could be very helpful for a lot of people.

About the name: I like the International Spine Patient Society. Sorry, Alastair, I can't go for the name International Patient Spine Society. Perhaps because my spine is not patient at all. It is quite impatient! )

I am grossly unimaginative at the moment~ altho I very much like and agree with the name "International Spine Patient Society"~
It's descriptive and concise~ just imagine "The ISPS"~ very nice ring to it! Thank you Mark!

I have reserved the domain ispine.org.

Thanks to Lynnie at MGH... we'll be something like

International
Spine
Patients'
Information
Network
E -something or other....

I'm still open to suggestions and am not totally married to the name.

More later,

Mark

Federation Spine Patients International (FSPI) (Fispy)

The wording and syntax allows for a more international feel; individual countries can translate more readily without transposing the words.

This also provides for future formation of individual country or region-level organizations who may wish to belong to the international Federation. North to south and east to west, that would be: CASPI, USSPI, MEXSPI, ASSPI(uh oh!), NASPI, EUSPI (Gotta think big!) ;-)

Not to be left out, I want to form the CCSPI.
