Happy New Year!!!

Someone mentioned that I could benefit from visualisation techniques.

I witnessed a car accident outside my home and this has affected me greatly causing a lot of stress.

This stress has led to my neck/back condition to flare badly.

Has anyone any experience of using visualisation? Any sites worth looking at? What the person was thinking is I should visualise the incident and visualise filing it away etc.. just looking for a bit more guidance.

A couple of books to look at for instruction

The Relaxation and Stress Reduction Workbook by Davis, Eshelman, and McKay

Make Health Happen: Training Yourself to Create Wellness
by Erik Peper, Catherine Holt, Katherine Gibney

You might also look into EMDR, which is often good for desenstitzing people to a traumatic event and is pretty quick. There is some discussion in the first book of EMT, which might be a similar technique, I am not sure. (I've only talked to people that had EMDR, but haven't used it myself so I only know the general idea and not the specifics)

I tried visualization once.

Before one of my early pain management sessions, Diane and I went to have lunch on the beach. There was some bonehead guy nearby who was feeding the seagulls and had attracted quite a crowd. Needless to say, his crowd of seagulls made it difficult or impossible for us to enjoy our lunch on the beach.

A few hours later, I was in the PM's office, wired up for biofeedback, lights off, relaxed. The therapist puts on an audio tape of beach sounds and my biofeedback signals went through the roof. My wife and I still joke about it.

Gary,
What no naked women dancing around you in this recent sunshine?? So that would be The Gary Visualization Method...

For me it would be standing in a jewlery store surrounded by sparkling gems and lots of bright shiney gold reflecting sunbeams in my eyes...I would be drunken with a warm pleasure that neither food nor sex can provide...
