I am amazed that I haven't found this site before! This is a great resource.

I am a federal employee living in Washington state. I am currently in Open Season for Healthcare plans and have 7 carriers to choose from. I was wondering if anyone here has had success\failure with any of the following companies:

KPS

BCBS

Group Health

Aetna

Geha

Mail Handlers Benefit

Pacificare

I have called all of the above companies to ask specificaly if they cover the ADR, needless to say I didint get anywhere. They all told me "I think it would be covered, but would have to send in a pre-auth to be certain". that doesn't help me at all to decide who to go with.....ughh

any insite would greatly be appreciated.

Randy, AETNA has an ADR-friendly policy as I recall. Most people have been rejected by BCBS, some like me were successful appealing and winning coverage.

Please do a careful search through the big bucket, and fill in the blanks for all of us!

Thanks

Hi Randy,
My surgeon and case manager have had more ADR approvals with Aetna than any other insurer. If you go with BCBS, it depends on the state and the underwriter. Best wishes!

KPS was the only one of the 7 companies that told me flat out that they will deny it, regaurdless of the medical nesecity.
I understand now (thanks to all of you) that none of them have a choice to pay for it in the long run, but I think I will avoid the hassle all together. Plus Aetnea has the lowes out of pocket co-pay for inpatient hospital stays.
Now my biggest decision will be WHERE to have the surgery. Its sad that I work for a Hospital that has a highly experienced Surgoen with over 40+ ADR's under his belt, and can't have him do the surgery. Dr. Devine at Madigan Army Medical Center. and since I'm not in the military, its not an option.
I'm just not looking forward to a flight post surgery, but it seems that in order to find an experienced Dr, I will have to travel.

Randy,

Aetna has been one of the better insurance companies for ADR's. Aetna has been covering Charite ADR's.
