Hi all,

I am here with my boyfriend, Mark who is in week 11 of his recovery of his Pro-Disc 2-level (L4-L5/L5-S1) surgery. We traveled to Germany this past April even though BCBS (of California) denied his claim. We decided the only option was to go anyways and pay for it ourselves. (Fusion was not an option)The good news is that he has been getting steadily better and does not have the same level of pain that he had before. In fact, it has helped to alleviate some of the other pains he was having in his body.
Mark's injury came from a 30' fall when he was a teen and over the last couple of years the pain became unbearable. He was diagnosed with DDD and was a perfect candidate for the ADR surgery.

We look forward to long bike rides and long walks together again, both of which were no longer a part of our daily lives.

We are now in the process of trying to get the insurance company to pay part of the bill. And as you all know, there is no fun to be had here.

More details to come...

10/2008 3 surgeons confirm C6/C7 needs ADR and always has.
Has anyone had a second ADR surgery on an adjacent level?

Congratulations Mark on a successful surgery. It sounds like you have a good support person with Amber and that is important to have in the recovery process. I also went to Germany and BC/BS did pay for my four level ADR surgery so it is possible.

I am also a cyclist and have ridden thousands of miles after my ADR so it is a likely outcome for you guys as well.

Hang in there and let us know how we can support you in the process.

Good luck in your ins battle. Glad that your boyfriend is on the other side while making that fight. I had the exact same surgery just 2 days before his (mine on 4/7/08). I'm in my 2nd week of PT and working diligently to reduce my pain meds. It is such a relief to have the surgery behind me. Sounds like you guys feel the same.

Amber and Mark,

I am glad for Mark's progress. I would check the thread under Insurance Hell re: BCBS CA. They have been making progress I beleive. Good luck and Godspeed on the recovery. And Amber I am glad you are helping your BF with all this. I love seeing supportive mates.
