2. Relax at your computer

Computer work makes us stressed and tense, all of which adds to our pain. Try this short relaxation whilst you are sitting at your computer.

Make sure you are as comfortable as you can be at this moment.
Place your hands loosely on your lap, not touching each other.

Take a deep breath and follow it as it enters your body.
Take another deep breath and notice how much slower and longer your out-breath is.
Take another breath and, if you like, let it out with a gentle sigh like this, "Aaaaaaaaaahhhhh".
Imagine the sigh goes from the top of your head to the soles of your feet, helping to release tension and pain.

(You can finish here or carry on as below...)

Now imagine you have your back to the sun on a beautifully warm, sunny day.
Feel the warmth of the sun on your back.
Enjoy how relaxing it feels.

Imagine that feeling of warmth spreads throughout your body.
This will help to relax your muscles, releasing tension and stress.

If you like, imagine you are in wonderful place that is just for you.
On the grass in a park, on a beach, in a garden, on an island - wherever you find peaceful and relaxing.
Close your eyes if you'd like to while you enjoy thinking about your peaceful place for as long as you wish.

When you're ready, slowly return to full awareness,
stretch your fingers and hands,
wiggle your toes,
move your shoulders gently
and then continue with your day,
keeping the relaxed feelings with you for as long as you can.

TOOL KIT - If you liked this idea why not keep it in your Tool Kit notebook or folder of self-help pain relief methods. If you haven't started one yet, why not keep a special notebook or folder as your Tool Kit to remind you of techniques and skills for coping with pain. Your Tool Kit is especially useful when pain flares up. It will help prevent panic and fear and give you constructive ideas to focus upon.

WORDS OF WISDOM
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some Native American Wisdom
A Native American elder once described his own inner struggles in this manner:
"Inside of me there are two dogs.
One of the dogs is mean and evil.
The other dog is good.
The mean dog fights the good dog all the time."
When asked which dog wins,
he reflected for a moment and replied,
"The one I feed the most."
I hope you find the above ideas useful. If you would like more information on any of the items above plus more ideas for pain relief, please go to the website below or contact me for details of my CDs, tapes and books which contains many more methods for relaxation, pain and stress relief.
Alastair,
When I relax that way at the computer, I end up with 47,389 screens of a single character, and that character's key imprinted on my forehead.
But thanks for forwarding the peaceful suggestions.
