Default Recommended Office Chair

Hi there -

I'm almost 3 weeks out from my 1 level ADR at l4/l5 (see thread in ADR discussion), and heading back to work in a few days. I work from home so have the liberty to take a nap, lay down, go for a walk, etc. as needed, but I do spend the majority of my day at a desk on my computer. I've been using a crappy $50 office depot chair now for three years, and it's time to upgrade!! I need recommendations, please. I've been looking at the kneeling chairs, but not sure if that will be productive in the long run or not?

Thanks!

Default Comfy chairs

Hey CC.

I know we talked about this before, I'll see if I can dig up some old posts using the search feature. In the meantime...

I recently went to Officemax and Staples and spent some time trying out chairs. I found a few that I liked; they had the multiple adjustments like pricey Aeron chairs (lumbar and back angle adjustments, locking, etc.). Even some of these were around $100, which I thought was pretty good.

You may find as you heal that your body goes through different adjustments mechanically, so your preferences for certain sitting positions will change too.

Back in 2003,4 and even 2005, I found my car seats very uncomfortable. Gradually, they became comfortable again...

One place that I have done a lot of shopping at and I know several other members have posted about is Relax the Back stores. They have a wide selection of office products as well as many wonderful goodies for those of us with back issues..

You can browse their site here Relax The Back or request a catalog. They also have brick and mortar stores where you can go in and touch, feel, test products that you are interested in.

I have an Aeron chair at work and I love it. Since my discogram (I've had more pain) I am definitely noticing that it reduces my lower back pain. I don't know how it will be after surgery.

But I think in general, that you have to get a chair that feels best to you. That is hard to do, as it really takes some time to figure out if a chair is going to feel good. Same thing with beds. You just can't tell in 15 minutes or less. It really takes using it for extended periods of time to tell.

I have a Freedom chair which also allows for different adjustments.
