Hints and tips Post ADR
Recovery is a slow process. It might take from 6 months to 2 years for a full recovery. Do keep your body fluids up by drinking a lot One of the secrets is to break things down into small portions. It is better to do 4 half mile walks than a single 2 mile walk - - -try and think like this for at least 3 months No twisting or bending - - -bend at the knees please. Getting in and out of bed Getting out of bed(for RHS)is roll on your right side use your elbow and make your legs a right angle swing your legs over the side of the bed and you are sitting up, just stand from there Getting into bed is the reverse A typical problem which does occur, is when small children or grandchildren come running at you without thinking you try to pick them up. It's the things that you did naturally before your surgery, which will catch you out and if you're not careful will give you a lot of pain. Trying to walk the dog is another typical problem, as the dog will jerk on its lead, and so will hurt your back. You need to give yourself a least 12 months before you think of doing either of the above activities When you're getting into the car, get in gently with your back towards the passenger seat if you are driving, and gently move your legs round so you are then facing the front. This is made easier if you sit on a plastic bag which will help you to pivot on your bottom to face the front. Get out of the car in a similar manner so you are not twistingyour spine. There are a number of things which you should be doing as this, to keep the strain and pain off your spine.
