Latent Chronic Bronchitis and surgery
My husband's scheduled/plane tickets ordered for hybrid surgery next week. His lung xray report says, "airway inflammatory disease with upper limit normal lung volumes, probably related to active or previous bronchitis..." Steve hasn't had bronchitis for years.
Does anyone know if this is a show stopper? I read somewhere they could put him on a week of antibiotic (that would have to be today!). Thanks

Are you sending these reports to the surgeon? I would think if it was a pre-op requirement, they will comment pretty quickly on any problems with this diagnosis and surgery plans. Doesn't sound like an active infection though.

Any latent infections of inflammatory disease are a potential risk, especially if they show up on an X Ray. Whatever the case, your doctor has a team of specialists that he/she calls upon to assess the risk.
Sorry for the news, but better safe than sorry! Let us know what the surgeon says.

Thanks for the input.
steve had to do a spirometry test. He's never smoked and no asthma. The results were good. We're in Plano, TX and the surgery is tomorrow.
