Each case needs to be put forward separately to BUPA so it is possible to have 2 levels with BUPA. All others except BUPA are OK with 2 levels and above. Best Alastair

Hi,
I just spoke with BUPA and they will only payout for a 1 level disc replacement , this is due to th guidlines set by NICE , as they do not recommend a 2 level reeplacement!! this means I will have to pay £3500 to have the second disc done or go for a fusion and a disc replacement, whixh BUPA will pay for.

James,
if you can pay, I would do. There is no point having a fusion which will cause problems with adjacent joints later if you are having ADR at 1 level. I think BUPA only have this on the Prodisc have you asked about someone who does the Charitee?? I spoke to Mr Shairs secretary who is here http://www.orthospine.co.uk/Pages/consultants.html in Peterborough and has a nice new hospital (no infections ever so far)and they said no probs with 2 levels and payments. I have the Charitee and its been OK for me. Give this a try maybe?? Charitee has the longest and best track record so far - - -. Please let me know how you get on!!!! Best Alastair

HI ,
Mr Lam wrote to BUPA to put my case forward to have 2 level disc replacment , but they declined. They will only pay for 1 level. So I have booked in for Jnn 10th 2007 , and Mr Lam said that if he can get 2 discs in he will , and I will just have to pay the difference. I have a 40% of Mr Lam getting a disc into L5/S1 otherwise he will do a fusion at this level and a prodisc above. I hate the politics involved in private health care , whats the point if I have to pay 5 grand of my own money. But what else can I do, you have to put your health before ££££££.

Hi James,
From what I understand BUPA are the ONLY private health firm that limit you to one disc- - - shame we didn`t know about it earlier- - and BUPA do such a hype about being big and generous. I think its just with the disc Mr Lam uses also, the Charite` seem to be OK from this aspect Take care Best Alastair
