1. c
2. c 3. helped me realize complexities of the technology that I didn't appreciate before, and helped guide questions on new approaches - some answers/hints to be found in the presentation and abstracts, but mostly to ask better questions of docs I'm meeting 4. although the high degree of technical jargon is typical for scientific presentations, a list of the abbreviated key terms would at least help people look up what they might want to find out more about. I really appreciated having an overview of all of the presentations though. It makes it much easier to identify abstracts for follow up - and questions for the docs and other experts we ultimately have to rely on. Knowledge is power as you say - even if we all, doctors included, have to keep asking questions. Complex problems seldom have simple answers. Thanks again for helping us along the journey! Tyler

Click on the attachment in my 8-2-2010 post, then open or download the PDF file. If that doesn't work, email me and I'll send you the report.

As usual, very interesting report. My answers:
1. d 2. c 3. Just knowing the up-to-date information on Disc/Spine technologies is interesting. I like hearing from different speakers in different areas, as well as other countries around the world and how their approaches and views. 4. I think if they give more graphical information instead of just raw data, it would help. Maybe even in each section discussed, sub-sections for SUMMARY, CLINICAL STUDY DATA, FUTURE of TECHNOLOGY, CONCLUSIONS, etc ... Also they should add more hyperlinks to the studies, the procedures or devices, etc .... so someone can see not just the outcome data, but what's behind it. They quote many, many, studies, but still no real meaningful use conclusions yet. Having more real patient speakers would be nice instead of just the clinical. And maybe at some point, a real majority agreed upon plan on how things can improve, like a business plan for the SAS, if possible. Unfortunately what I see is that money is still the main driver, and not meaningful outcome results. Ken |

This may be too late for you to use, but thought I'd answer since I just saw this:
1. b 2. c 3. There is so much information it is hard to decipher which studies to follow as a "patient." Makes this whole process of deciding what is the best surgery seem more difficult to me. Then again, I feel like I should go read some of the individual studies. Interesting. 4. I like that my doctor is one of the presenters! At least maybe that decision I can rest easy on. DAnn
