Thank you guys for the positive support. Helps me to push forward even more. You know I was talking on the phone with a fellow "spiney" yesterday and he asked "if you know you are having the surgery in the study why are you continuing to push the insurance", my reply was that if there is anything that I can do to help everyone that follows in my footsteps with this surgery then thats what I will do. This isnt just about "my" surgery anymore. It's about ALL OF US. We all deserve to have the patient care that we deserve and anything that I can do to advocate for that.....I'm all over it. I wont stop until the answer is APPROVED!!!!!

How did you get a letter from your senator's office? Should we get news stations involved in this? There has to be something we all can do to get the ins. companies to change their minds. I just got my first denial and am going to start the appeal. Any suggestions?

I emailed my senator regarding my situation. I finally got a phone call from them and went from there. I requested the letter and told them what I wanted them to say in the letter. They rep had to do some research regarding the informaiton that I had given him and that they believed in what I was asking for. Well the letter states they do.

I have been contacting the new stations. I finally got ahold of Komo4 this morning. The guy at the other end of the phone sounded interested. He is going to have a reporter give me a call back. I have also been calling King5 on a daily basis but have not heard back. On my message I said "I just want 5 minutes of your time, I will continue to call back on a daily basis until I hear from someone". Hopefully they will at least call me and listen. If not....well....I'll keep calling.

If I havent already emailed you all of the information that I have you can email me at slussern@comcast.net and I will email you all the info that I have and used in my appeals. I can also email you a copy of my appeal letters.

The only suggestion that I have is DONT GIVE UP!

I also contacted my Senator in PA, it was right before FDA approval. He sent me a letter after the device was approved telling me that the device was approved and that this should help me. Apparently he didn't understand my letter because I'm in need of a 2 level ADR and the difficulty of insurance approval. I sent another letter explaining that FDA approval is great, but it also makes things alittle more difficult with insurances not willing to cover this procedure. I'm still pushing for help in this department, but I haven't heard anything yet, the last time it took about 6 months. So I'm hoping to hear something soon.
