Got somewhat of a stupid question, but obviously, I felt the need to ask it anyway
Is it safe to put MRI films through airport x-ray / scanning devices, or should I insist that they examine them by hand? Thanks. David

Hi David,
Its a very sensible question actually, and one I asked on my quest for my ADR. Once your X-rays have been developed they are not affected by the X-raying at customs. A tip here - - -I put mine flat in the bottom of my case Good luck with your trip Best Alastair

I just put them on the bottom of my suitcase. That is best due to the fact mine where about 30 pounds. Nothing happened to them at all. As a matter of fact Dr. B kept mine so he could take digital pictures for a presentation and he actually mailed them back to me and they are fine. A Long journey from Germany to Connecticut and they made it just find.

David,
I put my x-rays them in between my cloths because the bottom of my suitcase has 2 bars for the pull out handle and I did not want them to get creased. They made it back and forth to LA 2X. Got popped for over weight bags on my way down to LA this time. The guy did not charge me. (I was sitting in a wheelchair) I needed assistance to the gate and with my bags because I know I could not carry or pull them and would need help on my return.

thanks for the responses.
I am not planning on taking any checked luggage, so I will be taking my MRI films as carry on luggage. It sounds like I am ok either way, although the TSA (Transportation and Security Agency) website says: "At the passenger security checkpoint, you should remove the following types of film from your carry-on baggage and ask for hand inspection": --Highly sensitive X-ray or scientific film ... ... --Medical film --Scientific film So, it doesn't specifically mention MRI film... David

The reference to film is for unexposed film that still has active emulsion that may react... essentially exposing the film rendering it useless. No problem for already developed film.
