Default Surgery

Hey Long!

Your methodical and conservative approach are very good. As you move forward in your decision process it reminds me of my process. Mine was acute onset due to a MVA and they knew that fusion or replacement were immenient unless I wanted to live with the pain. Was it severe enough to warrant surgery? Think of how much you ADL is affected. Do you do all the things now that you did prior to this issue? Can you do all the things you did? I couldn't and at 49 years young I wanted my life back. Well I am almost there!!

Well, had to stop using the inversion table due to my pain getting worse on Tuesday (5/26). It feels like my sacrum is broken or a vertebrae is locked into a position and not moving.

Called the surgeon and they were not impressed that I wanted a motion x-ray/videofluroroscopy to determine if one of my vertebrae was locked and that might be causing the pain.

They recommended I not use the inversion table and put ice rather than heat. More likely they said the problem was bone on bone causing the issue but my disc didn't appear that dehydrated in January 09.

Yes decompression is a general term for usually Lamatomey discetomey & facetomey. I had one - to relieve the nerves but the risk is left with no fusion or ADR - I also became unstable at that level & had a progressive spondylo the risk of a decompression to the spine is this. I had then a 2nd surgery to hold my spine together - by ADR from Dr B.

Hope that helps - Jill
