Default Weird Symptom - Myokymia

Hi everyone, this is a new thread. I thought may be someone here can enlighten me on my symptoms. To put everyone in perspective, please read my signature. I am about 12 days post-op now and seem to be making ok recovery. I still do have some pain in the back of my neck, slightly to the right, as it was before surgery. the pain at the site of surgery - the incision - is almost gone. I do not have any more radiating pain in the arms. The weakness still appears the same, unable to appreciate any noticeable improvement.

On the contrary, I have some weird symptoms, which I have asked to my surgeon as well and he said it was likely not significant. I will try to describe it - The most serious symptom which had me concerned in the first place was - Myokymia - which is involuantry contraction of muscles secondary to spontaneous discharges - like the ones we normally have sometimes around our eyes. I had this myokymia in certain muscles on the right side, which made me see the neurologist and also to get the MRI in the first place on 4/16/09.

Even before surgery on 5/6/09, I had similar muscle contractions on the LEFT side, though they were not as sustained as on the right side. I had been disposing off these symptoms as secondary to anxiety, but I definitely do have them off and on, on my LEFT side, besides that I have some fleeting pain in the back of my neck on the left side as well. I am unclear and afraid, if it is harbinger of another disc herniation or something. I have had 2 MRIs of my cervical spine 3 weeks apart, second one on 5/4/09, which was done after I noticed these new symptoms before my surgery. As per the new MRI as well, there is no disc herniation on the left side, I am so confused - Is it just my anxiety? What should I do? I have a constant fear whether I am having something on the left side now. I dont have any radiating pains on the left arm though.

I'm not sure if this is similar or not, but after my first surgery I started having muscle "jerks"... it was just after the surgery not before. My dr said it was normal. My leg would jerk by itself, and it would drive me nuts when I was trying to go to sleep, and just when I woudl start to doze it would happen and wake me right back up.

Now, facing sugery again, it has started before the surgery and is happening in both legs now. Mine is lumbar though, not cervical, so maybe it's the same thing, but shows up this way for you because it's cervical? Just a thought.

Default Hard to say...

Let's hope it is temporary. In the meantime, this seems to be a good reference:
