recovery questions
Hello,
I am 48 years old, active, and healthy. For the past 4 years I have endured chronic pain in lower back, buttocks, and legs. Recently, I had ADR on my L5 S1 five weeks ago. My energy level is quite good, and I'm walking about a mile each day along with some physical therapy which includes core strengthening and some mild stretching. I am able to sit only for about 30 minutes or so before I start to get uncomfortable, and I still struggle with aching muscles in my legs and piriformis. I am taking only a Lyrica 75 mg at night and sometimes I take 1/2 tramadol tablet in the afternoon. For those of you out there that have had this type of surgery, how long will it take for me to be able to sit without pain? How long does it usually take for the aching in the legs and piriformis to go away? My surgery was done at Texas Back Institute with Dr. Blumenthal in Plano, Texas. Blessings, Christie |

I am 54 years old today. I had a two level fusion, S1 thru L4 and ADR at L3, at Texas Back Institute. Dr Ziglar did mine. I am now almost 8 months since my surgery and am so pleased. Just in the last couple of weeks I dug 9 post holes, set 350 lbs of concrete to set the posts. No problems. I have a large territory and last week drove from NE Texas to Alabama and back and was able to sit just fine. Like you I was unable to sit for more than 30 minutes. I still don't do well just standing still for long periods but can move around very well. Be encouraged. I am extremely pleased. Also I have been off of pain meds since January 1st.

Hi Christie, it really depends. I think that 80% of the people have that pain recover in anywhere from 3-9 months. Mine was inconsistent, it came and went, but resolved completely at 7 months.
