Now that my ADR surgery is potentially right over the horizon, I wonder if now would be a good time to get a new laptop (?), since my current laptop is 5+ years old.
I was thinking that it might be nice to have something farily light and portable that I could use directly after surgery. I see that Dell is trying to clear out its inventory of Core Duo laptops, presumably to start selling the Core Duo 2 laptops that are right around the corner. That being said, the E1405 and E1505 look pretty reasonably priced, but the one downside that I see is that they aren't the lightest thing in the world (5-6lbs). Has anyone bought a laptop recently and/or have any recommendations? Thanks. David

Hard call because the Merom chips are coming soon which are faster but run hotter imo. Sony Viao offers very light notebooks but comes at a cost. Also, the smaller, the hotter they are (so much for laptop or having kids). I like Apple b/c it's customer service is excellent. They're refining a way to simultaneously run Windows with their OS Xx (= "Bootcamp").

Thanks for the recommendations.
I will probably do something mail order / online, since it is much more convenient. I am also thinking about going to a Dell store somewhere nearby, to get a feel for the physical dimensions of their laptops. Apple: I have nothing against Apple, but I lean more towards the Windows / Linux environment (although ironically, I do most of my work on the OpenVMS 8.2 platform). Children: Against my religion.
