I have also gone to two other surgeons here in Denver who recommended fusion. I refuse to do three of them. I had no idea that artificial disc replacement was being done here in the states and actually was researching Dr. Ritter-Lang in Germany. I am going to get a second opinion from him as soon as I get a new cervical MRI. I am sorry I misunderstood you posts. Either way, I know I need to get surgery but I will fight until my insurance or the VA pays for it.

After getting my bone density results yesterday, my surgeon called me and said I have to get a fusion in my lumbar at the L5-S1 instead of the Prodisc-L. I will still get the multi-level ADR in the cervical at the C5-6-7 with the Mobi-C. I am so thankful we had a bone density test in the event something might show up like this. Whew!

Just returned home from cruise on Sunday. Leaving this morning to have pre-surgery consults with two of my surgeons today then to the hospital to do preregistration. Tomorrow I have another pre-surgery with the third surgeon. Decided to stay the night in a hotel tonight rather than drive 4 hours each day.

Latest Update: Getting Mobi-C in C5-7 and fusion at L5-S1 due to bone density report. I didn't want a fusion but after going on the cruise and reading these boards I think it is much better than going with the Prodisc-L. I am at ease with my decision.

I'll keep you all posted as my surgery is scheduled for Monday, October 20th. Would appreciate prayers and positive energy. Thank you all for your support!

Bernadette

Bernadette, I'm going to be out of pocket quite a bit between now and Monday and won't check in here much. So I'll go ahead now and wish you a successful surgery with minimal pain (at least as minimal pain as you can have after lumbar surgery). Good luck, Jeff

Prayers going out CB for a successful surgery and quick recovery, although even then patience will be demanded of you as you already are well aware. You have done your homework and due diligence so you are in the right place after thorough work on your part. Congratulations there and good job!

Thanks Drew and Jeff. Surgery is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. and I need to be at the hospital at 6:30 a.m. Completed all the preregistration stuff at the hospital, had my blood work and an EKG. Saw all three of my surgeons and I am ready for the surgery.
